About the artist - Simon Laurie RSW RGI

Simon Laurie RSW RGI (b.1964) is a landscape and still life artist. His Highland landscapes and table arrangement paintings combine the traditions of Scottish painting with the compositional qualities of modern British printmaking.

Simon Laurie was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1982 to 1988. He was elected member of The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW) in 1991 and the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI) in 2000. He has won many prestigious awards including the Teachers Whisky Travel Award, RGI and the Alexander Graham Munro Award, RSW.  His paintings are characterised by references to Scottish life and society incorporating fish, drink, religious symbols and buildings. These objects are arranged upon a rich textural ground created by the application of multiple layers of acrylic paint. Laurie’s two dimensional constructions combine tradition with technique to form his own fundamental visual language.
