His works emerge through close engagement with particular environments, combining materials gathered from landscapes with found objects, digital processes and traditional bronze casting. Standing stones, cairns and other forms of ancient monument-making inform sculptures that often resemble figurative relics from imagined cultures. Through these forms, Farnes considers how communities have historically marked the land and used objects to establish identity, orientation and meaning.
Farnes first encountered lost-wax bronze casting at the age of sixteen at Yew Tree Foundry in Suffolk, an experience that led him to study Fine Art at Norwich School of Art & Design, graduating in 2004. He subsequently worked at Sotheby's while maintaining his studio practice, before returning to Suffolk in 2016 to establish his own studio and foundry. Recent exhibitions include RUNES, curated by OHSH Projects at Thames-Side Studios Gallery (2026), where his large-scale bronze Stele formed a central work, and the KCAW Public Art Trail Legacy Show in London (2026). His sculptures are held in private collections across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States.
