Luisa Ramazzotti: Showcase
"When I visit Venice, I spend time walking, drawing, and exploring, and the information I bring back to Scotland provides the foundation for the paintings that emerge in my studio. Taking notes and absorbing the atmosphere of the place builds familiarity with my subject, allowing me to simplify and play with composition and colour.
I create images which are of a Venice remembered with longing, as if in a dream... a dream the viewer is invited to enter to experience the beauty, seduction and magic of the floating city."
Luisa Ramazzotti's work is inspired by Venice, London, and the Scottish landscape. She works in oil, pastels, and gouache. Her paintings are informed by her drawing practice, using colour naturalistically when painting directly from the landscape, and more imaginatively when working in her studio.
Luisa Ramazzotti was born in Turin, Italy, in 1953. Her training began at the age of fifteen, when she attended Turin's Liceo Artistico and learned to draw from plaster casts and the figure. After moving to Scotland, she obtained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1996, from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, later returning to complete a Master's degree in 2009.
Luisa was also taught by the late Alberto Morrocco OBE, who became a lifelong friend, mentor, and a major influence on her development as an artist. Following her graduation, she taught a portfolio preparation course at Duncan of Jordanstone, and went on to teach life drawing and painting to private groups for many years.
In 2008 Luisa was instrumental in founding Perthshire Open Studios. That same year, she received the Perth and Kinross Visual Artist Award. She exhibits regularly and her work is held in collections in the UK, Italy, France, and Japan.
