To celebrate the publication of Bill Hare's Facing the Nation: The Portraiture of Alexander Moffat, Hare and Moffat will be in conversation at the Open Eye Gallery. Moffat's contribution to Scottish painting is celebrated in this landmark book, collecting his portraits of the nation's preeminent writers and thinkers. Many of the portraits included in the book are on show at the Open Eye in his exhibition A View of the Nation from 10 to 29 January 2018. The exhibition includes portraits of poets involved in Hugh MacDiarmid’s Scottish Renaissance as well as renowned Scottish artists Alasdair Gray, Adrian Wiszniewski, Peter Howson and Ken Currie.
