Alberto Morrocco: The Family Archive

An exhibition of drawings and paintings by celebrated Scottish-Italian artist Alberto Morrocco. Renowned for his superb draughtsmanship and traditional teaching practices, this exhibition will showcase a selection of his largely unseen portfolio drawings alongside landscapes, still lifes and figurative works acquired directly from the artist's Estate.


Alberto Morrocco OBE FRSA FRSE RSW RP RGI LLD (1917-1998) was born in Aberdeen in 1917, the son of Italian immigrants. At the young age of 14 he gained entrance to Gray’s School of Art and travelled in Europe after graduating. Most of his professional life was spent as Head of Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee where he maintained a nostalgic approach to art education with emphasis on technique and practice. In 1962 he was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1965 , and in 1977 was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute. He died in 1998.
