Charlie Yates: Lost and Found

A debut solo exhibition from recent Glasgow School of Art graduate, Charlie Yates, showcasing a body of work made up of a series of observations of recalled places and memories.

As the foundation of his paintings is based on actual and partially recalled memories and places, Charlie’s work is informed by sketches, photographs and recordings both written and verbal in nature.

These observations are combined with recalled experiences from his family, mementos and photographs from the 1950s and 1970s.

Charlie’s practice of continually interrogating the material and images often results in undetermined scenes. This, offset with the use of a limited palette, makes for a series of atmospheric evocations and nostalgic interpretations of fond family experiences.
