Anthony Theakston: Ceramics and Bronzes
Anthony Theakston is a ceramicist inspired primarily by bird form and movement. He begins each work by drawing quick sketches from nature to capture a striking form then refines these drawings into a design on paper, trying not to lose the initial expressive action that rough sketches can capture. Once designed Theakston sculpts the form out of a solid block of plaster before casting it in ceramic. Theakston’s work is intended to lift the spirit. Both the bronzes and ceramics are dynamic but graceful sculptural pieces.
Theakston studied ceramics for six years, gaining both Bachelors and Masters degree before lecturing for five years at Camberwell College of Arts. He now concentrates solely on designing and producing his own ceramics and bronzes. His designs are collected worldwide and he has examples of his work in major museums throughout the UK.
