Festival Jewellery: Lesley Strickland and Sarah Straussberg
An exhibition of mother and daughter jewellery designers, Lesley Strickland and Sarah Straussberg, will be on show during August. Strickland specialises in the use of cellulose acetate (derived from cotton oil) combined with sterling silver. The acetate can be layered into a wide range of patterns and can be manipulated into far more fluid forms than other forms of plastics. Her inspiration comes from weathered, natural forms and sculptors of the 1950s. With a similar flair for elegance in shape, Straussberg blends her love of sculpture with an exquisite eye for craftsmanship, hand-making every piece in her London workshop. Drawing inspiration from natural patterns and textures, she uses sterling silver with 18ct gold plate to create sculptural forms that are modern and wearable.
